In this episode we pick up where we left off after Canadian ETF’s and discuss our US and International ETF picks. We drink some 88 Brewing, ‘Ring Pop Double Dry Hopped Hazy IPA’ purchased by Jeremy. We discuss the reasons we have picked the ETF’s that we hold and the difference between different US and International ETF’s. Here in the FI Garage, we’re all on the path to FI, however, we consider the RE part optional. #FIRE

Hello gentlemen,
I am curious on your thoughts on GEQT vs XEQT.
Thanks in advance
Hi Kristian,
I had a quick look at these and the main takeaway I had about the specific ETFs was that the GEQT – which I understand to be the ESG fund – does not appear to have exposure to the emerging markets. Buying a little XSEM might solve this problem, but doing that means you don’t have an all-in-one solution.
When I decided to buy ESG funds I went into it with my eyes open to a number of things:
1) There will be greenwashing to some extent;
2) My personal preferences will not necessarily be represented by the inclusions and exclusions of the ESG funds; and
3) The ESG funds may well underperform the total market.
I just wanted to do something, anything, better for the world.
Hello economist,
Thank you for your detailed and prompt response. I noticed on the podcast you were leaning to more ESG funds and thought I would dive into researching further into those funds, and moving into that direction myself. Appreciate what you guys are doing! Thanks again, keep up the good work. Cheers! Can’t wait for the next episode.
